About Dr. Kureshi
Dr. Kureshi completed his undergraduate studies in molecular biology and microbiology at the University of Central Florida before earning his medical degree from the University of South Florida College of Medicine.
He went on to complete his internship and residency in internal medicine at the Mayo Clinic School of Graduate Medical Education, one of the most respected training programs in the country.
He then spent five years at the University of Missouri–Kansas City / Saint Luke’s Mid America Heart Institute, where he served as Chief Cardiovascular Diseases Fellow. During this time, he also completed advanced training in echocardiography and nuclear myocardial perfusion imaging (PET and SPECT), along with an NIH T-32 research fellowship in cardiovascular outcomes and quality of care under the mentorship of Dr. John Spertus. He simultaneously earned a Master’s degree in Bioinformatics (Clinical Research Track).
Dr. Kureshi further advanced his expertise at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, where he completed specialized training in cardiovascular MRI and CT imaging.
After completing his training, he was recruited to Austin, Texas, where he successfully built the cardiovascular MRI program at St. David’s Health System. He later founded Axis Cardiovascular with the mission of bringing academic-level, evidence-based cardiology care into the community setting.

Coming from a family of physicians, he was deeply influenced by values of integrity, service, and compassion. His father served as a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army and practiced as an orthopedic surgeon for nearly 30 years. His mother, also a physician, dedicated herself to raising their family, and his sister is a physician and academic leader in clinical education.
These experiences shaped Dr. Kureshi’s commitment to delivering honest, patient-centered, and evidence-based care to every individual he serves.
